FRED Engineering to conduct hydro-climatic vulnerability study for water and sanitation in Mali

FRED Engineering is launching a strategic study in Mali to assess hydro-climatic vulnerability and design climate-resilient water supply and sanitation measures across the Kayes Region and Kati Circle

We are proud to announce the launch of our new consultancy project in Mali: the Hydro-Climatic Vulnerability Study on Water and Sanitation Needs in the Kayes Region and Kati Circle.

Commissioned by the National Directorate of Hydraulics (DNH) under Mali’s Ministry of Energy and Water, the initiative is part of the broader PAAEPAR-3C2K program (Project to Support Climate-Resilient Water Supply and Sanitation Services), financially supported by the African Water Facility (AWF) / African Development Bank (AfDB).

In recent decades, West Africa has experienced significant climate variability, including shifting rainfall patterns, increased temperatures, and more frequent extreme weather events such as floods and prolonged droughts. These phenomena pose a direct threat to water availability, sanitation infrastructure, and public health.

Over a four-month timeframe, FRED Engineering’s multidisciplinary team of hydro-climatic experts, hydraulic and hydrogeological engineers, environmental and social safeguards specialists, and gender analysts will:

  • Assess water & sanitation access: Perform a detailed analysis of current and future water supply and demand.

  • Data integration: Gather and organize hydrological, meteorological, and climate data into an accessible, structured database.

  • Evaluate vulnerabilities: Conduct thorough vulnerability assessments of existing infrastructures and communities, incorporating a strong gender focus.

  • Develop mitigation & adaptation strategies: Formulate concrete, actionable measures to enhance community resilience and safeguard critical water and sanitation assets against climate shocks.

  • Provide policy recommendations: Deliver strategic insights to support the Ministry of Energy and Water in operationalizing long-term climate resilience.

Through this project, FRED Engineering reaffirms its commitment to delivering sustainable engineering solutions that protect essential water resources and empower vulnerable communities in the face of climate change.
