We are thrilled to announce that we have been awarded a significant contract to develop a comprehensive decision-support framework for road safety in rural networks across Indonesia. This initiative, funded by the World Bank, will see us working closely with the Government of Indonesia (GoI) to address the country’s substantial road safety challenges, particularly in its geographically diverse rural areas.
The project’s main objective is to create a scalable framework that will empower policymakers and stakeholders to effectively identify, prioritize, and allocate resources to improve road safety in all 35 of Indonesia’s provinces. Our key activities will include:
- Road Safety Management Capacity Review: We will assess and strengthen Indonesia’s road safety management capacity, focusing on the unique challenges of rural contexts, and provide recommendations for institutional and regulatory improvements.
- Rural Road Safety Decision-Support Framework Development: This involves creating a comprehensive framework with interactive tools and methodologies for risk mapping, intervention prioritization, and resource allocation, adaptable to varying provincial data quality and availability.
- Data Collection System and Observatory for Rural Road Safety: We will establish robust systems for data collection, storage, retrieval, and analysis to support evidence-based safety planning.
- Pilot Implementation and Validation: The decision-support framework will be tested in selected representative rural areas across Indonesia to validate its effectiveness and document lessons learned.
- Scaling Strategy and Implementation Roadmap: We will develop a phased rollout plan for nationwide implementation, including resource requirements, institutional arrangements, and a sustainable financing model.
This 12-month assignment represents a vital step towards enhancing road safety in Indonesian rural areas , ultimately aiming to reduce the alarmingly high rates of crashes and fatalities. We are proud to contribute our expertise to such a critical and impactful project.
