FRED Engineering Awarded Contract to Enhance Road Safety in Bolivia

FRED Engineering will be at the forefront of efforts to enhance road safety in Bolivia, tackling crucial issues in road safety management and engineering. This comprehensive project aims to curb the increasing number of road fatalities in the country through diagnostics, capacity building, and the development of robust safety frameworks, particularly within the trucking sector and road works. This initiative is fully funded by the Global Road Safety Facility (GRSF).

The project, which is expected to span eight months, will involve several key tasks:

• Road Safety Leadership and Regulatory Framework Diagnostic: We will conduct a high-level assessment of Bolivia’s current road safety leadership and regulatory framework, identifying strengths, areas for improvement, and key entities involved. This includes reviewing existing regulations against international best practices and providing recommendations for enhancement, along with leadership training for key officials.
• Road Safety Engineering Capacity Building: Our team will develop and deliver tailored training programs on road safety engineering for professionals from academia and the Bolivian Road Agency. This involves assessing training needs, adapting materials based on international best practices with an emphasis on safer road designs and speed management, and reviewing existing engineering curricula to integrate road safety interventions.
• Trucking Sector Capacity Building: A critical component focuses on improving road works safety within the trucking sector. We will review national practices, with priority given to World Bank-financed road projects, and develop a comprehensive framework and guidelines for road works safety. This will include ‘train the trainer’ capacity building for contractors and other trucking stakeholders.

This project underscores FRED Engineering’s commitment to improving road safety in low- and middle-income countries and our expertise in road safety management, engineering, and capacity building. We look forward to collaborating with Bolivia’s Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) and the World Bank team to achieve a sustained reduction in road fatalities and serious injuries across Bolivia.
