FRED Engineering is proud to announce the commencement of activities for a pivotal road safety initiative in Côte d’Ivoire, executed in a joint venture with local partner BPL Project Experts. Commissioned by the Agence de Gestion des Routes (AGEROUTE) in collaboration with the Office National de Sécurité Routière (OSER), this 12-month study focuses on evaluating the effectiveness, safety, and infrastructure impact of speed moderation devices—such as speed humps, rumble strips, and raised platforms—across urban and interurban road networks.
Traffic calming measures installed across key corridors, including the Bouaké – Ferké – Ouangolodougou and Abidjan – Adzopé – Agnibilékrou routes, have contributed to reductions in severe crashes in built-up areas. However, they have also raised technical challenges regarding transit times, vehicle operating costs, and pavement wear caused by braking and acceleration forces.
To address these challenges, the joint venture will conduct comprehensive field diagnostic assessments, analyze traffic crash data, gather user feedback, and carry out cost-benefit analyses. Key outcomes of the project will include:

Practical Design Guide: Developing a standardized technical guide detailing recommended speed-reduction designs tailored to specific road contexts, such as school zones, village crossings, and interurban corridors.

Policy Recommendations: Proposing technical improvements to national road safety policies, coordination frameworks, and enforcement strategies.

Capacity Building: Delivering structured training programs and workshops for AGEROUTE personnel and public decision-makers to promote best practices in traffic calming design.
