We’re proud to announce that we’ve been awarded the contract for the Road Safety Audit of the Kaphatenga-Dwangwa Road Reconstruction Project in Malawi. This is a crucial part of the Multinational SADC Sub Regional Transport and Trade Facilitation Project, funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the OPEC Fund.
Our work will focus on improving road safety and minimizing crash risks for all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists. The project involves the reconstruction of a 162.5 km road between Kaphatenga and Dwangwa, and it’s a key part of an initiative to improve transportation and trade along the North-South Corridor.
Our role as the Road Safety Auditor will be to conduct comprehensive audits at multiple stages of the project:
- Stage 2: Detailed Design. We’ll review the engineering design to identify and mitigate safety issues before construction begins.
- Stage 3: Completion of Construction. We’ll inspect the completed road to ensure the design was implemented correctly and no defects were introduced.
- Stage 4: Post-Opening Monitoring. We’ll analyze road traffic collision data for 12 months after the road opens to identify any recurring issues and recommend remedial actions.
We are excited to contribute our expertise to this vital project and help create a safer, more efficient transport network for the people of Malawi.
