A new project has just started in sub-Saharan Africa. In this case, FRED Engineering is carrying out a road safety audit of various infrastructures in the city of Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. The service is carried out on behalf of AGEROUTE, the Ivorian road management agency
The road infrastructures being audited are part of the Projet de Transport Urbain d’Abidjan (PTUA) funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The road safety audit focuses in particular on the following projects: (i) doubling of the Dabou road (19 km); (ii) doubling of the Civil Prison road (23 km); (iii) rehabilitation of the Y4 bypass between Boulevard Mitterrand and Route d’Alépé (24,4 km); (iv) extension of Boulevard Latrille over 7.3 km; (v) construction of 3 interchanges on Boulevard Mitterrand; and (vi) construction of the Yopougon-Plateau bridge with its access viaduct (1,4 km) including 7 km of access road. The audit covers three phases of the infrastructure’s life cycle: (i) before the works, i.e. during the design phase; (ii) before opening to traffic; and (iii) after a few months of operation (before the end of the warranty period).
This is the third project that FRED Engineering is carrying out in Côte d’Ivoire after the audits carried out along the Abidjan – Ouagadougou corridor (in 2018) and after the study for the implementation of a sustainable strategy for financing the activities of OSER, the local road safety lead agency (in 2021).
